Cheap Trick + George Martin = awesome album! Jan 04, 2008 It was a dream come true for uber-Beatles fans Cheap Trick to have George Martin produce an album with them. The results equal one of my favorite Cheap Trick albums, and I love Cheap Trick so when I say it's probably my favorite release from them that carries some weight. It might sound odd but I think Heaven Tonight is their "best" album but All Shook Up is probably my "favorite" album, and I can't leave In Color out of the running for either spot because that's outstading as well. Anyway, All Shook Up has some oddball stuff like a Darth Vader-synth voice on "High Priest Of Rhythmic Noise" and a tribal-esque drum chant party on "Who D King." Add to those a grandiose theme song like "Stop This Game," a couple of old-school rockers like "Just Got Back" and "Baby Loves to Rock," and one of the best power ballads EVER in "World's Greatest Lover" and you have one heck of a record. I have the original 10-song version (after my old LP literally wore out) so I can't comment on the remastering or bonus tracks. I have to mention that "Can't Stop It But I'm Gonna Try," "I Love You Honey But I Hate Your Friends," and "Go For The Throat (Use Your Own Imagination)" are also classic Cheap Trick tunes. There is literally not a bad song on this entire album. Favorite songs: all of the above.
Personal digression on my hometown heroes Jul 18, 2006 This album means so much to me, actually reminds me of one of the most painful periods of my life. But since recently rediscovering my hometown heroes, the songs put a boying grin on my face.
Being from Rockford, Cheap Trick and their growing fame were a good calling card for me for me in 1978-79 when my dad moved us out to California. I guess I was about 12 and one of my favorite hobbies was air-guitaring to "Gonna Raise Hell" in the living room.
Anyway, we moved back to the Midwest at about the time the All Shook Up LP came out and I can remember how I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. We lived in a cheap apartment building on the outskirts of Chicago. Just walking around in the place would bump our Dual turntable, so my dad decided to suspend it from the ceiling. It stopped the arm from jumping.
I played the hell out of this album and I can also remember picking up a copy of Judas Priest's British Steel.
There's something beautiful and sad about Stop This Game, but perhaps it's just my associations.

Last Good CT Record!. Mar 10, 2006 The very first concert I saw UFO opening for Cheap Trick on this tour, Love the Album, every song is a little different and rocking!. Check it out!.
Good but not the best Cheap Trick album Feb 11, 2006 Good set. The first swan song from original bassist Tom Peterrson (and his 12 string basses!). "Stop This Game" is amazing, as is Rick's guitar solo in "World's Greatest Lover." In fact, Rick's guitar solo in that song might be his best ever. (Check out Robin Zander's guitar solo on 1997's "Say Goodbye," from the "Cheap Trick (black cover)" album. That possibly is the greatest C.T. guitar solo ever.
Anyway, hold on a few more weeks for the remaster, which will include "Everything Works If You Let It" and the "Found all the Parts" EP from 1979-80. I think it's coming out March 7.
Peace

Cheap Trick - 'All Shook Up' (Sony) Feb 10, 2006 Nice follow-up to 'Dream Police'.Originally released in 1980,as this was the band's sixth lp.I remember the day this record came out and even though many critics didn't care for it,'All Shook Up' was fine with most fans.I saw the tour for this very album,as I believe it was only like my tenth concert I ever attended. Most memorable tunes, without a doubt are "Stop This Game",the eye-opener "Just Got Back","Can't Stop It,But I'm Gonna Try","I Love You Honey,But I Hate Your Friends" and the off-beaten path ditty penned by drummer Bun E.Carlos "Who'd KIng".Was fun to hear this song played for the finale encore.Always have considered Cheap Trick to be best described as 'heavy pop'.Recommended.
