Description:

The 20th Century Masters series is the best-selling single-artist line in music history and is being re-released by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) in its ground-breaking, environmentally-friendly packaging format. A first for the music industry, the standard package (both sleeve and tray) will be completely paper-recyclable, continuing the company's long-standing commitment to being "green."

To further reduce the amount of paper in the Eco-Pack, the CD booklet will no longer be offered. Official liner notes are easily accessible on the Internet at http://www.ilovethatsong.com/green.

UMe is the first North American music company to replace the traditional jewel case with recycled paperboard sleeves and the plastic tray with trays made from PaperFoam®, a new packaging technology from Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper, that is paper-recyclable and biodegradable. Shorewood Packaging is the first North American packaging supplier to produce disc trays from PaperFoam®.

4good tracks  May 10, 2008
Donna summer is One of the most Underrated talents ever. she was more than a Disco Diva. She could blend so many styles and knock them out the park.these songs still hold up and Donna's vocal range is something else. the sound on here is really good as well. good tracks and a stronger artist who hasn't gotten her full due as a Musical Powerhouse.

3Is This Time For Real?  Sep 22, 2007
When it comes to the 70's era, Disco still remains a great guilty pleasure act for listeners young and old. With classic acts like The Bee Gees and many others who've re-released their albums the past several years, the sound is much better than ever. Donna Summer is somebody who knows that feeling. Although she hasn't scored a big hit the past several decades, she has still shown on stage she has a great presence as a dominant force in music. A few years ago, Universal released a budget compilation of Donna's Disco anthems as a part of their 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection. Now, a sequel to that budget series for Donna has been made, but is it really worth the money.

The 2007 Donna Summer Best Of 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection Volume 2 is the follow-up to the first volume. The album does focus in on Donna's style beautifully as one of the most diverse performers of our generations. The songs have been remastered fairly, and could've sounded better, as in comparision to other collections like Donna's 2005 Gold. Still, there are a few great tracks here that are highlighted here including including The Wanderer, Heaven Knows, This Time I Know Its For real, and I Will Go With You (Con Te Partito). The album does though include a few tracks that were overlooked from previous hits records like There Goes My Baby and Melody Of Love, but it just doesn't feel like it is enough. The album does overlook a few great songs like Unconditional Love, a song she performed with Musical Youth in 1983 and Supernatural Love, one of her underground 80's hits.

All in all, the Donna Summer 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection Volume 2, doesn't really capture a lot for die hard fans, as much as it draws in newcomers to Donna's music who are on a budget. Sadly, though the album isn't as much of a must buy as it could've. Instead, I really suggest a better hits record like Donna Summer Gold from 2005, or The 2003 Journey: Best Of Donna Summer single disc hits records instead. This one feel like it might be for real, but misses the mark.

3Weird selection  Jul 12, 2007
There are many Donna Summer compilations, including the rather skimpy 20th Century Masters Volume One. This album, however, must be one of the most bizarre. The first few tracks like Could It Be Magic (from the Love Trilogy album) are obscure songs from her early career in the 1970s. Tracks 5 to 10 were huge hits and all date from her later, post-disco phase. The Wanderer (1980) and There Goes My Baby (1984) are pure pop ballads, whilst This Time I Know It's For Real (1989) is a fast uptempo dance track from the Stock/Aitken/Waterman produced album Another Place and Time. State Of Independence is a magnificent spiritual song from the 1982 album Donna Summer. I Will Go With You (Con te partiro) is another memorable hit, this time from 1999, and the album concludes with a single from 2005. Why give an album the title 20th Century Masters and include post-2000 tracks? Whilst the music is good, the collection suffers by comparison with the many other Donna Summer compilations out there.
