Great music for an exercise routine Jul 06, 2007 I danced to disco in the day, but I didn't listen to the lyrics. That's my story and for the most part I'm sticking to it. Well, really the purpose of dance music is to get you up and moving. That's what I bought this CD for---workout routine music.
But in Donna Summer's case there is some good content in there, too. "She works Hard for the Money" and "MacArthur Park" are two notable songs. Also, her duet "Enough is Enough" with Barbra Streisand is a real standout.

There are a crap load of Donna's greatest hits missing from this album and they are: "Try Me, I Know We Can Make It", "Could It Be Magic", "Spring Affair", "Love's Unkind", "I Remember Yesterday", "Once Upon A Time", "I Love You", "Rumour Has It", "MacArthur Park", "Heaven Knows", "The Wanderer", "Cold Love", "State Of Independence", "Unconditional Love" (performed by Donna Summer & Musical Youth), "Supernatural Love", "There Goes My Baby", "All Systems Go", "This Time I Know It's For Real", "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt", "Love's About To Change My Heart", "When Love Cries", "Friends Unknown", & "Carry On". But still a good buy.

Skimpy Collection Jan 27, 2004 Although this compilation contains some of Donna Summer's greatest hits, it does not compare well with other collections like the Donna Summer Anthology with 34 tracks or Endless Summer with 18 tracks or On The Radio with 16 tracks. Having said that, this Millennium Collection does have her biggest chart hits from the early sensual track Love To Love You Baby, through the electro-disco trance masterpiece I Feel Love, her majestic version of MacArthur Park, her rock-disco hits from 1979 Hot Stuff and Bad Girls, the duet with Streisand and later stuff from the 1980s like Love Is In Control and She Works Hard For The Money. It showcases her early work with Giorgio Moroder and the later pop direction and includes both sizzling dance tracks and a ballad or two. For a more complete look at this amazing singer, I recommend one of the aforementioned compilations or her classic album Bad Girls which is a timeless masterpiece.

The Essentials at a Great Price Dec 31, 2003 I have been a frequent critic of the great 20th Century Masters rip-off foisted on the record-buying public, but here's what I liked about this set. One, I paid less than ten bucks for this collection. Two, it had all the Casablanca/Mercury hits I was looking for with the exception of "Heaven Knows," (a sacrifice I was willing to make at the expense of being a tightwad). The only other Top 10 singles missing are 1980's "The Wanderer" on Geffen and 1989's "This Time I know It's for Real" on Atlantic. I already had ON THE RADIO on vinyl, but wanted an economic upgrade to CD that didn't have all the cross-fades between songs. So for someone like me that enjoys disco as a guilty pleasure, this was a satisfying fix. RECOMMENDED

Down Disco Dec 25, 2003 For Donna Summer, she has always proved to be a survivor in this industry for a very, very long time. People often wrote her off in this industry, longfully because she has often been typecasted as a Disco Diva. Truthfully, she is one, but at leats she isn't manufactured like a Manufactured Britney Spears, or our current Milli Vanilli, Jennifer Lopez. But unlike them, Donna Summer has beeen able to seriously make a career out of the lavish sound and dance. The Diva from Boston does know that the same way. The flipside is that I wish I could say the exact same thing about Greatest Hits records. There is always something missing, and even more. The 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection is a budget series collection of songs that are more for the affordable people who can't afford it right now. The Donna Summer edition, is a collection of around 11 tracks from Donna's longtime career. The songs are some of Donna most popular songs, including Love To Love You Baby, She Works Hard For The Money, Dim All The Lights, Hot Stuff and Bad Girls. Although the songs are great just so, the collection is an absolute miss. I suggest that you sincerely pass this one up, and get the recently issued The Journey: The Very Best Of Donna Summer in place instead. There are just more songs there than here. This record doesn't really seem to have the rhythm Donna Summer is known for. All that I can say, is that the 20th Century Masters collections, need to really be improved by a longshot. They all really seem to be improved. Even though Donna Summer has a brilliant, soulfully Earth-grabbing voice, she also needs to keep showing it, wherever she goes. As for this record, pass this up and get another Greatest Hits record by Donna Summer. This one doesn't have a whole lot of rhythm that Donna Summer is known for.
