Fantastic cd. Jun 05, 2008 This is an awesome cd, the music is very inspiring. My favorite song is "Cornerstone" it is a great song. I have seen them live, also, they are great.
Weak at points, but solid Christian rock overall. May 22, 2008 I went into Day Of Fire's eponymous debut album not really knowing what to expect. I was never a fan of Josh Brown's previous band, Full Devil Jacket; heck, I never actually heard any of their music. All I do know is that the "rock star lifestyle," if you will, that Brown was living while fronting FDJ was ruining his life according to his testimony. The drugs, the alcohol, the promiscuous sex, you name it. After a while this lifestyle caught up to him, and he eventually left FDJ altogether to follow Jesus Christ. Like I said, I have never heard a Full Devil Jacket song, but judging by the faith-inspired lyrics heard in Day Of Fire's music I'd be willing to bet they were more on the negative side.
Anyway, onto the actual review of the album. It starts off strong with "Through The Fire," one of the best songs the release has to offer. However, directly after that comes "Detainer," one of the album's three weakest tracks. Matter of fact, the first half of the album follows this "strong song/weak song" pattern, in my opinion. The excellent "Cornerstone" (the first DOF song I heard courtesy of a good friend) is proceeded by the repetitive and not very inspired "Time." Sorry, but the chorus of "do you have the time, do you have the time..." doesn't do much for yours truly. "Fade Away" comes next and once again picks the album up on a positive note, but this doesn't last long as it is followed by "I Am The Door," which although it has a great message has too much of an 80s/arena rock vibe to it, as some other reviewers have mentioned.
With the exception of the rather pointless instrumental track "Adrianné" (named after Brown's wife), the second half of this album is better and more consistent. "Rain Song" is my personal favorite of the bunch, and "Jacob's Dream" is equally compelling. "Reap And Sow" is a bit short for my tastes, clocking in at just over two and a half minutes, but it rocks all the way through. The album closes with "To Fly," which although has an intro that sounds eerily similar to that of "I Am The Door" is an overall better song lyrically and musically.
So not counting the instrumental, we have ten fairly good, melodic yet gritty rock and roll tracks with Christian themes here, only three of which I don't particularly care for. Not a perfect album but certainly above average, so four stars it is. This album came out in 2004, and I have not yet listened to their 2006 sophomore release "Cut And Move" but I will definitely be picking it up soon. According to the band's MySpace page a third album is in the works but they are currently without a label, so they are looking to fan contributions for support.
Just Good Christian Rock Jan 06, 2008 If you like Decyfer Down than I would highly recommend Days of Fire. There are some great guitar solos and most importantly great Christian inspirational lyrics.
WOW!!! DAY OF FIRE IS AWESOME!!! Nov 08, 2007 Day of Fire records with Fireflight...be sure to check them out, too! If your teens want excellent punk/rock/metal but don't think it's possible in a Christian band, get them this CD...it will definitely change their minds!
