Cello Shredders Apocalyptica shred for their lives in this awesome album! Oct 19, 2008 I remember hearing "Path" on a classical station and thinking "Wow, who is this?" When I head the name Apocalyptica, it definitely stuck a chord. unique name, cool feel to it. A month later, I had purchased "Cult" at HMV, not expecting much. Path was the first song on here, so that was really cool. Then the 2nd track Struggle came... and then the 3rd, and the 4th... each track (except for 2 songs) held my interest from start to finish!
The Egyptian-flavored "Path" starts off the album on a very fast paced note. Then we get to the uber-heavy "Struggle", which sounds like a mental breakdown happening at an alarming rate. The third track, Romance is very beautiful, while having the metal feel to it. Lots of great sounds here. "Hyperventilation" is what the first 5 letters of the title suggest it is: HYPER. Ultra fast Cello playing dominates the song here. It's as if they're in a race against time... yet it sounds so good. "Hope" is my 2nd favorite track on this album, it's the soundtrack of the apocalypse. Closing the album is three covers, one of In The Hall Of The Mountain King, and 2 Metallica covers- Until It Sleeps and Fight Fire With Fire.
This album has it all- apocalyptic music that sounds like the world is about to end, and amazing cello as well as guitar work. This is now #16 on my top 50 favorite albums of all time list. Great work, Apoc! Keep shredding your cellos!
MUST HEAR:
Path
Struggle
Romance

Big brother style CD encryption? Check. May 30, 2007 Now, don't get me wrong, the music contained on the CD is stellar. Top notch. From what I've been able to hear, it's really great.
My problem is with the CD itself and the encryption used on it. When I plugged it into my Windows machine and attempted to play it using WinAmp, there were no files detected on the CD. Curious, I chose to explore the CD to see what was the matter. And I found a grand total of 3 files. I tried disabling AutoPlay, and still have this issue. The CD will play if I use Windows Media Player, but I find that that particular player cuts out partway through songs, won't play the disk from start to finish, and it uses up too much resource to leave it running in the background.
I find this extremely distasteful and have grown quite upset with the CD itself. I won't be purchasing anything more from this band if this is how they're going to encrypt their products, despite how good their music is.

Nothing like it Mar 08, 2006 Let me put my 2 cents in real quick. I just went through the entire album, my sister has been trying to get me to for a while. Let me just say that this is never coming out of my CD player for a LONG time. Each song beautifully transistions to the next, and... it's hard to explain the emotions you get, its something you have to experience yourself. This is a music lovers cd, go and get it.

Electric Cellos? Dec 12, 2005 Wow another effort by Apocalyptica! I loved Plays Metallica by Four Cellos and Inquisition Symphony has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. But there is something about Cult that fails to grab me. This time they bring in a distortion that sounds like they are playing Electric Cellos, and a few drums and symbols here and there. This sounds promising but I found several of the songs like Coma to be extremely slow and boring. There aren't any songs like Harmageddon. All the songs are technically good and musically brilliant but only about half the songs stand out. The CD also feature a guest female vocalist on Path Vol. 2 and a music video for it as well. My favorite song has to be their cover of the classic song Hall of the Mountain King which is executed perfectly. Then there are two metallica covers, Until is Sleeps is boring and the only post black album cover that I am aware of. Fight Fire with Fire makes up for it and is worthy of any praise. Something just doesn't sound the same. Maybe it's the small amount of covers but there aren't a whole lot of spectacular songs on Cult. Pick up Inquisition Symphony instead for complete perfection.

Awesome Aug 27, 2005 Path was the first Apocalyptica song I heard, and I was immediately hooked. Just the idea of metal with cellos is the kind of thing where you think, "Hmmmm. That's just crazy enough to work." And it does work magnificently. The combination of fast-paced, metal-inspired songs like Hyperventilation and slower, classically based songs like Coma works very well. This CD, like their previous ones, still isn't 100% original. This doesn't take away from the CD at all though, it is still an amazing disc.
