Amen Mar 19, 2008 Amen ***½
When I first heard of Amen I was really skeptical and sort of shrugged them of, but once I finally heard them I was floored. I saw the band perform on The Henry Rollins show, they performed the song `Coma America' and it really blew my mind. I hadn't heard or seen anything like that since Henry Rollins himself was in Black Flag during his glory days of hardcore punk.
The music on Amen's self titled album is loud, pissed off, fast, well played, and true. The lyrics make you think and the musician ship is among the best for this genre. Casey Chaos is easily one of the best front-men to come along in rock n' roll in a very long while, though most people have no clue who he or Amen are matters very little because those who do know who he is know exactly what I am saying.
This may not be the bands best album but it sure showed promise of things to come. This is a great starting point for anyone interested in the band. This album is worth owning for the song `Coma America' alone as it is truly one of the very best songs to come along in a very, very, very, very long time.
Dribble Dec 15, 2007 I would give the music, performance, and content of this album 5 rolls, because this band is suffering from a bad case of dysentery. I won't waste too much time on this review, other then this is a perfect example where energy does not equate to talent. There appears to be a political statement spackled throughout this album, but it lacks vision or direction other then negative hysteria, and I should have stopped at Coma America (the first song), and found a better use for the material (CD) like a coaster or trivet, but I was desperate to find something redeeming about this album; however, had I did, then there would have been a positive out come with this purchase. What about Ms. Rice, is Hillary the solution? Then say that, come on! Both sides are piss, and I'm not buying the rhetoric hate, hell the Clinton's were the worst residents in the White House, then Roosevelt, then the Bushes, get it right! What ever happened to articulating ideas and solutions; come on, is the audience for this band so blinded by hate that they buy wholesale into this delusional mantra of hate? I have an idea for the band, try giving us the audience something genuinely profound, like positive energy, and solutions or do us all a favor and have a self destruction concert, where the dribble can end. I'd ya give my CD but the music inspired me to destroy it! No Stars for this dribble, but Amazon forces the reviewers to have a minimum of one, so the can peddle this s@#^^!
It's Casey Chaos! How can you go wrong? Dec 18, 2006 For those unfamiliar, Casey Chaos is an artist. This is one of the heaviest punk acts of all time, and under his watch has elevated a stagnant scene to a new level. With all Amen releases, this is a work of art. Looking for oi's and faux British accents? Maybe a mowhawk or two? Well, kiddies, this is punk rock in its purest form. "Punk ain't no religious cult. Punk means thinking for yourself." - Jello. Check it out.
good first cd Apr 24, 2006 Amen's first cd is a real gem and great to listen to. Their punk influenced sound and look (and outlook on issues)are unique in the sense that there is'nt a band out there that sounds like them or they sound like. I think their original sound will definitely influence other bands to come in future. It is as if they took punk music to where it is suppose to be today. (not the blink 182 and so on direction). Amen is also a metal band and they have heavy elements in their music but the anthem-like songs bring out the punk element more. Real good and real fun album!
