A lot Better Than Given Credit For... Oct 18, 2008 When Christina's debut album first came out, loads of people were quick to brand Christina the rival of Britney Spears and since then, it seems compared to Britney, Christina's albums will never be at par. Sad considering Christina is the one with the more vocal talent and not as manufactured as Britney is.
When I look back in my opinion, while Britney's debut (...Baby One More Time) had catchy beats and fun tunes to listen to - Christina's is more enjoyable to listen to, and has more mature subjects. The one thing that lacks on this album though is some of the songs do not really show case Christina's vocal talents.
'Genie In A Bottle' opens the album. It maybe one of the late 90's pop princess sounding songs but this song does contain sexual references, not to a large extent but a minimal one. Its not a bad first single or opening track and it does stand out on the album in it's own way. Its tongue and cheek in a cute way.
The second track 'What A Girl Wants' brings in the typical boyfriend song jive. An upbeat pop song about a girl telling her boy what exactly a girl wants and what she needs from her boy.
'I Turn To You', a slow ballad, could be dedicated to just about anybody whether it be a friend, relative or lover. Whoever you can turn to in a time of need. Christina's vocals are really show cased hear, especially in the middle of the song when she hits that powerful high note.
'So Emotional' is a more mid-tempo song. Another sorta sexual track witha more soulful vibe, doesn't showcase her vocals much but its not a bad song. 'Come On Over (All I Want Is You)' another upbeat song about a girl wanting nobody else but her boyfriend. The radio/video version is better than this version and has more mature lyrics, this version isn't bad though.
'Reflection', another ballad from the Disney movie Mulan. Christina's vocals are perfect on this track it can send chills up your spine. Its amazing. Great track!
'Love For All Seasons'. Kind of a corny ballad, its OK. About a girl expressing her love in different ways and comparing them to the change of the seasons.
'Somebody's Somebody' - a bit of a filler, not bad, but not enjoyable either. 'When You Put Your Hands On Me' is a bit of another sexual song, but again doesn't go too far into the deep end. 'Blessed' is another nice ballad, I love this track although I don't quite understand the meaning of the song. Someone is blessed about something in their life non-the-less.
'Love Will Find A Way', an upbeat track about how love will eventually find a way and not to worry about all the bad in life because something is bound to smile on you sometime and bring happiness and joy. One of my favourite tracks.
'Obvious', yet another ballad but the perfect ballad for Christina. The perfect way to end an amazing album, show cases her vocals also.
To end this review, while critics were quick to jump Christina and compare her to Britney and brand Britney's debut more 'addictive' and 'enjoyable', I have to disagree on both counts. Christina is more talented and what irritates me is when she sheds some skin, the critics are quick to jump on her and call her every nasty name in the book, but once Britney does it, its considered 'hot' and 'the perfect return to the music industry'. But, that aside, this album is a wonderful album and if you're looking for an album that's a cross between young pop music and more mature pop music, than this is the perfect album for your collection by the best female pop artist out there today. One of my personal favourites to this day, and always enjoyable no matter day of the week.
This album deserved and rightfully earned Christina 'Best New Artist' at the Grammy Awards in 2000.
Chris Oct 09, 2008 This product arrived in good condition as well as in a timely fashion. My son loved it and that's all that counts.
Weak debut. Mar 06, 2008 Christina Aguilera's debut album had some really cheesy and manufactured songs. She sold a lot of albums and won a Grammy for Best New Artist, and the girl can sing her damn heart out but this album is pure candy-coated fluff. The songwriting is horrible, songs like Come On Over (All I Want Is You), Genie In a Bottle, What A Girl Wants, When You Put Your Hands On Me, and I Turn To You, these songs never make you want to come back for me. Only three tracks prove X-tina can belt, Blessed, Reflection, and So Emotional. This album didn't showcase what this girl could really do, it's disposal pop and I am so glad they don't make this kind of music anymore.

WHAT A GREAT VOICE!!! Feb 24, 2008 I love this artist, this girl is a tremendous hit!!! and this is her real first album; i like the dancing tracks like GENNIE IN A BOTTLE, COME ON OVER (ALL I WANT IS YOU), SO EMOTIONAL and LOVE FOR ALL SEASONS;It has the great ballads REFLECTION (from Disney's Mulan), I TURN TO YOU, OBVIOUS and WHAT A GIRL WANTS; If you have MI REFLEJO, you can hear some of this songs in their Spanish versions, but in the case of WHAT A GIRL WANTS the rhythm is different if you compare the MI REFLEJO'S version UNA MUJER (but the song is the same). One of the greatest female voices of the 21th Century!!!

Christina's debut a grand slam Nov 23, 2007 This is a very strong debut from Christina. Her voice is very powerful and can seem very strong one moment and shift into very soft and tender the next. She has vocal abilities that are very rare and she shows them well on hits such as Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, I Turn to You and Come on Over. A very strong album.
