Simply outstanding Nov 21, 2008 This album justs get better and better the more I listen to it.From the opening track I'm gone I'm going to the album closer Come Back this debut album from Lesley Roy is full of highlights too many to mention. This is an album of big choruses (title track and second single Unbeautiful will make you very happy indeed), great vocals(Come Back, Psycho Bitch,Dead But Breathing, Come To Your Senses)and a Desmond Child track (Misfit). An album two years in the making, it's been worth the wait. If you buy only one album this year then it has to be Unbeautiful. If you like classic rock tunes with great vocals the this is the album for you. Buy it, you'll be glad you did.

Thank you Rock Band 2 free downloads Nov 07, 2008 Never heard of her until 30mins ago when i downloaded my 20 free songs on Rock Band 2. So i go through em to see what i wanna play not knowing any of the artists and come upon her and like the little sample so i play it. i LOVED the song, so much so that as soon as i finished i went online, found her official site and listened to the song samples she had and wow..i love those already and i only listened to maybe 1minute or less. I'm gonna see if they have it in stores here tomorrow but if not, i'm definately buying it off amazon.
I tell ya, Rock Band and Guitar Hero are helping so many lesser known artists/bands get exposure. I would have never heard of her at all if not for that game. So yeah while it might seem weird to suggest a CD i dont even own, i've heard enough to say she rocks. Granted i'm a big "rock chick" fan so there was probably little chance for me to dislike her.
oh and not that it matters cuz good music is good music but damn she's hot. :P
I'm counting on destiny...(4.5) Oct 31, 2008 The flooded singer/songwriter genre has yet another applicant in Lesley Roy.
Being the avid fan of female vocals I am, I've been swamped sorting through lackluster CDs lately. Just as I was ready for another letdown I picked up Lesley Roy's debut CD, Unbeautiful. As expected, however, this breaks no new ground for singer/songwriters. Sticking to tried and true topics like relationships--most prominently--Lesley really doesn't even give us much we haven't heard there before either.
Q: "So why should I even get it?"
A: Her voice is unlike anything I've heard since Jennifer Knapp.
Given the fact that each of the thirteen tracks included feature an entire band backing her, you couldn't have picked a better voice. I couldn't dream of Lesley Roy trying to sing a ballad with only a piano simply because her smokey voice begs for guitar melodies and pounding drums. Thus, the rock feel Unbeautiful sports throughout fits perfectly.
Lead off single I'm Gone, I'm Going lets you know exactly what to expect upon first listen. Pretty much split down the middle between rockers and slower tracks, there's actually a good balance. If you did get into Lesley Roy thanks to her single, tracks like Here For You Now, Psycho B!@ch, When I Look At You, and Misfit are all waiting for you. If you want to see if she can work her way through a slower song, Slow Goodbye, Unbeautiful, Dead But Breathing, and especially Crushed, Come To Your Senses, and Come Back are all excellent.
My favorite songs are Here For You Now, Psycho B!@ch, Crushed, Come To Your Senses, and Come Back. While I definitely realize Lesley is treading a familiar path she does demand some attention. I don't think Unbeautiful will be the CD to catapult her career, but it will no doubt gain her a lot of fans and a good following. Let's hope to hear from her again.
Awesome! Oct 19, 2008 If you like the chick rocker genre, it doesn't get any better than this. The title track is so good, I would have bought the album for that song alone. But with every song ranging from very good to excellent, this is one of those rare albums you can just play through over and over again. See you at the Grammys Lesley!
Unique, In Her Own Right Oct 04, 2008 To compare Lesley Roy to any other artist would be unjust. This isn't another manufactured bubble-gum pop idol, this 21 year old from Dublin, has real heart and soul poured into her lyrics & music. Lesley writes, "There are a couple of themes that run through the album, evolving around the many different aspects in relationships, whether it is loss of love, not wanting to be in love, trying to help a friend through their own issues, struggling through death of a friend, unrequited love and the happiness and excitement of being in love. There is also a sense of not wanting to be hurt and trying to stand up for yourself after a difficult relationship." A powerful, gripping album that twists and pulls at your emotions. This Irish las deserves your attention!
