3Missing some soul  Aug 06, 2008
A lot of good elements, but this album just doesn't quite have enough soul or depth to make it past radio pop.

5My favorite CD of 2007, and 2008!  Aug 04, 2008
I bought this cd last summer and I still haven't taken it out of my stereo. Her voice is a breathe of fresh air! I love her sound - soulful, folk, strong but quiet. When I heard that the radio was playing "Love Song" I was excited that she was getting recognition. I just hope this doesn't change her sound. Cannot wait to see what she does next. I would like to hear more acoustic with just her and her piano!

If you are debating whether or not to buy this cd, give it a chance, you will not be disappointed!

5Best Album/Artist I've heard in a long time  Jun 18, 2008
When I first heard Sara Bareilles' single "Long Song" on the radio I thought it was a typical pop song, catchy, and fine with me until I heard it several times over and decided I liked this song enough to go check out the other work from this artist I had never heard of before.

It turns out that "Little Voice" has become my favorite album of this year, or the past two or so years for that matter. Not only is Sara's voice lovely and her tunes catchy, but the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. I can only appreciate a catchy tune for so long before I become bored of it, for me the lyrics make the song and that is my favorite quality about this album, and all of her work, which I have since made it a point to collect. Sara's lyrics tell stories with poetic brilliance, I myself love to write as a hobby and so I always appreciate meaningful, creative lyrics that touch me, and Sara's music is full of them.

All the songs on this album are worth the purchase, from the catchy "Love Song" which has become a radio favorite, to the jazzier "Vegas" and the humorous lyrics to "Fairytale" a fun track with a message as well. "Morningside" and "Love on the Rocks" stand out with their fun beats, and "Between the Lines" and "Gravity" have become my two favorites because they have beautiful lyrics that you can just tell have come from this artist's soul, and each has had the ability to make me want to cry nearly every time I listen to it. The note Sara hits at the end of "gravity" is probably the most beautiful, tear-insipiring moment of the entire album, and it really showcases her talent.

Every year there are seemingly tons of new female pop artists who hit the scene, and they usually each have a few hits, sound pretty nice, but mostly all the same. Their lyrics are shallow and catchy, perfect for hundreds of repetitions on the radio until listeners like me simply can't take it anymore. Sara Bareilles stands out among this sea of competition because, frankly, she is on a higher level, possessing something called TALENT which is too few and far between in the music industry. I would recommend this album highly to anyone who appreciates an excellent female singer/songwriter, you won't be dissapointed.

P.S. If you enjoy "Little Voice" I would also suggest checking out Sara's debut album "Careful Confessions." While many of the tracks are the same on both albums, "Careful Confessions" has the original versions of these songs, which have a jazzier, less pop-radio-inspired feel to them. Also, there are about four songs on that album that are not featured on "Little Voice" and are definitely worth a listen..."Undertow" is my personal favorite out of those.

44-1/2 stars -- How about if I asked for it?  Jun 18, 2008
For those that don't know, Little Voice is actually Sara Bareilles' second album. Her first album was a self-published album called Careful Confessions but it has since gone out of print, which is why I can let slide the fact that several of the songs on there appear on THIS album. Anyway, I was first introduced to Sara on the Tonight Show, and then after "Love Song" blew up, I decided to check the album out.

This is one of those albums that makes you wonder why it took people so long to tune into her. There are highlights galore, like "Bottle It Up", "Between the Lines" and "Morningside". By looking at those selections, though, some might be upset that there aren't as many faster cuts like the aforementioned "Love Song"; in fact, the only other one there really is is "Vegas" (which also shines). Ah well; the two-in-a-row of "One Sweet Love" and "Come Round Soon" have to have some of the most innovative lyrics I've heard in a while. Another stellar back-to-back is shown on the choir-influenced tunes "Many the Miles" and "Fairytale".

Speaking of "Fairytale", though, the only reason I knocked off half a star is because the background vocals at the beginning of the song are really dissonant. But the rest of the song (and the album) are so good that I doubt you'll care. This album may be called Little Voice, but Sara has anything but, so pick it up if you haven't already.

4Beautiful Voice!  Jun 09, 2008
I was first introduced to Sara Bareilles via a tv commercial. Just loved the song ("Love Song") and found her voice to be amazing. Glad that that little bit of exposure to this talented artist led me to Amazon so that I could explore more of her work. This definitely will not be my last purchase of Sara's music. The vocal sounds, writing, and overall production of this cd left me wanting more!
