It's good ear candy Jan 29, 2006 It seems to me a lot of people are making this band something I have to disagree with. The first time I heard this band I was stoned and in a car and I was thinking; "$hit this is real cool" I was noticing Alice In Chains harmonies with Kim Thayil guitar solos and I dug it. At first I thought it was some new band on the radio for the post-grunge $hit eaters and I was about to cast it away, but than the vocal harmonies came.
I came to the conclusion that it was the product of radio friendly post-grunge that was created by fans somewhat tastefully. You can tell how derivative this is, how blunt the lyrics are about the slacker generation X movement. One bad thing is, In the song "Tapped" you just feel the drop D guitars making way to Nu-Metal post-grunge bands "ALL USED UP" with that raspy overly whiney Cobain-I-also-can voice makes me kind of weird. I tell myself I should progress forward, listen to new horizons. I am a die hard alternative 90's fan and that band is a guilty pleasure for a familiar ear. They are what they are, EAR CANDY...and if you can ignore the ridiculous lyrics and overly polished drop D chords...it is not a bad listen! But remember that this is not non-mainstream, this was MADE for mainstream radio and promoted by money grubbing executives, which makes you think; usually the industry succeeds in luring mediocrity to give them their hard earned money for generic music. However they did not manage it this time, which makes you think: Not the idealistic Indie fans or the bubble gum chewing football players bought this CD.
The sounds of 1994... Aug 06, 2005 Not as iconic as "Nirvana", "Dandelion" has a special place among my CD's for this great disc. Most of the tracks are memorable only as over-loud, endless chords - though that makes the disc a perfect time-capsule for the era of grunge. (Also, suffice it to say, because they didn't get the airplay of, say, "In Bloom" or "Smells like Teen Spirit", the lesser tracks here have the benefit of not having been played to death on Top-40 stations.) That said, "Dyslexicon" is graced by several songs which more than make up for the shapeless noise of the rest of the album - "Trailer Park Girl", an ironic ode to the goddess that lives in the trailer parks of our hearts; "Viva Kneival" which is a prolonged rock stunt which makes you feel like snapping some of your ribs; and especially "Weird Out", which kicks off with some guitar riffs that out-power more mainstream bands. I got this disc for "Weird Out", but like to break it out whenever I feel the need to trip back about a decade or so.
I Like It! Nov 06, 2004 Although if you are looking into them, I recommend the first one before this. In comparison to "I Think I'm Gonna Be Sick," this one is much more lighter. But don't let that fool you! This band is hands down the best underrated grunge rock band! Take a break from the mainstream grunge, and give this a listen. You won't regret it!
Great and the first is better.. Oct 23, 2004 I also am a huge fan of this band. I would hope they would come out with a new cd. Alot of people called them grunge fakers..but they had a cd out before this..in the midst of grunge hype and it got overlooked. The difference between the first one and this..is that this was more aimed to getting radio play i believe. They almost made it, as Wierd Me Out was getting played. This band is great i recomend checking them out..as you can find the cds pretty cheap. If you like Big Chief (who i think they sound like on there first cd), Mudhoney, Nirvana (of course, Truly..etc. Also check out the bomb art work from Marcus Durante (Zen Guerrilla singer)..who did art on the first one too..and does it for various other bands.
I heard a rumor Jun 28, 2004 Love this record ! its still relevent today!!! I think the VINES may have listened to this album a few times??? I heard a rumor in a chat room that Dandelion may release a new record in 2005? hope its true... buy this record if you dont own it already.
